A lightweight carbon folding e-bike, a 30-mile range and enough room in the boot for your adventure — GRON is bringing a different kind of travel companion to The Getaway Show Aberdeen.

There is something rather appealing about the idea of taking your bike with you rather than travelling somewhere simply to ride it. That is exactly the thinking behind the GRON carbon folding e-bike, which will be making an appearance at The Getaway Show Aberdeen at P&J Live from 25–27 September 2026.

For anyone who enjoys weekends away in a campervan, motorhome or car, the attraction is obvious. Rather than needing a bike rack or committing valuable interior space to a full-size bicycle, the GRON folds down into a remarkably compact package, making it easy to take along for the journey. And when you arrive, it gives you another way to explore beyond the campsite.

At first glance, it is the styling that catches your attention. Finished in a distinctive matt black carbon design, the GRON looks more like a carefully considered piece of modern transport than a traditional folding bicycle. But the clever part is what happens when you start looking beyond the looks. At just 15.2 kg without the rack and mudguards, and 17.2 kg fully equipped, it has been designed around the idea that a bike should be something you can actually take with you.

Then there is the folding mechanism. It is quick, straightforward and, importantly, practical. Fold it away when you are travelling and unfold it when you are ready to ride. That makes the GRON particularly well suited to the touring lifestyle — whether it is tucked into the boot of a car, stored inside a campervan or travelling with you in a motorhome.

It is also an electric folding bike that can be ridden as a normal bicycle. The nine-speed Shimano gearing means you are not dependent on the motor, giving riders the flexibility to pedal traditionally when they want to, while electric assistance is there when the hills get steeper or the legs start asking for a little help. With a claimed range of up to 30 miles, there is plenty of potential for exploring beyond the immediate campsite.

And Aberdeen is a rather good place to demonstrate the idea.

The area is surrounded by some superb opportunities for cycling, including routes that make use of old railway lines. The Deeside Way runs from Aberdeen towards Ballater, following much of the former Royal Deeside Railway and offering a mixture of woodland, farmland and spectacular views towards the Cairngorms. It is around 41 miles in total, with many sections providing relatively gentle cycling.

Heading north, the Formartine and Buchan Way provides another fascinating example. The route follows the former railway line from Dyce through Aberdeenshire towards Maud, where it branches towards Peterhead and Fraserburgh. The route is largely off-road and relatively flat, making it an excellent example of the sort of touring adventure where a lightweight electric folding bike comes into its own.

Of course, you don’t have to plan a 40-mile expedition. That is arguably the biggest appeal of taking a folding e-bike away with you. Park the motorhome, leave the car at the campsite, fold out the bike and suddenly the local village, café, beach or attraction becomes part of the journey. A short ride for supplies can become a scenic morning loop — and a quick spin can easily turn into an afternoon exploring.

Visitors to The Getaway Show Aberdeen will be able to see the GRON up close and, importantly, try it for themselves on the test track. We will be positioned right next to the track, so visitors can take a closer look at the bike, ask questions and experience how the lightweight folding design and electric assistance feel out on the move.
