Feature 1
The Folding Frame – We started looking at the frames available that were light, strong and much more simple to fold then the current crop. We decided our fold needed to be a simple push/pull and release system, with each part being easy to operate and without instruction. Our fold has a simple push release catch that is not only quick it is safe. No allen key needed and anyone can fold our bike. All these elements on the Gron e make our bike good on usability and easier than the top folding eBike of 2020 to get into the boot of your car. We are often citing “why make things more complicated” you should just switch on and ride a Gron.
Feature 2
The Ride – When you look back on your whole life riding bikes one thing stands out and that has to be the ride, so when we put a focus on our bike it had to be comfortable, we wanted to make sure that we included great tyres, larger than your typical folding bike 20 ” and with a smooth bearing action, and of course a very comfortable saddle. These elements add up to a better ride and more comfort. Adjust your bike for your height is also critical for a better ride no keys needed on our bike to adjust anything, a simple release clamp is used and makes it ideal when you lower the seat to put in the back of your car. We always felt we wish we had our bike with us when staying in holiday homes, and with a gron you can now take them with you without taking off any parts.

Adjustability– It became important to us if the bike was smaller what would happen if you had a 6ft-5′ person ride the bike, how could we make our bike fit with different shapes, sizes and of course lengths. Everything on the bike was built so it could be easily adjusted from the seat, handlebars and grips we also wanted to have the battery removable, so you could simply ride it without the electrical assist or charge a spare battery that can always be snapped on on a matter of seconds. Our bike needed to be easy adjustable to it’s users, we made that a key feature and the adjustments you can make for your comfort makes for a much more enjoyable ride. Our bike fits a wide range of sizes and is easier to ride as it is smaller but with all the handling of a larger bike with super reliable 6 speed manual gears and 5 speed electrical assist, all round disc brakes giving you an amazing feeling of safety and freedom.

Battery and operation – It is hard to imagine how you can think of an eBike without considering the battery, fortunately for us we had already researched the best manufacturers and it was a case of going with reliability, a battery that had a self protect system, and was swappable so you could keep getting more miles when on holiday. We use a rear hub system, because it has a proven track record reliable and mainstream. Central crank gear systems are more expensive and often harder to work on and with ours you can actually program it using the LCD the gear ratios, speed and a whole host of other hidden functions.

The main limitations on what constitutes an ebike or EAPC (Electrically Assisted Pedal Cycles.) are:
– No more than 250W Continuous Motor Output.
– Does not propel more than 15.5mph.
– Over 14 years of age.
– Pedals must be in use for assistance to be provided.
With these limitations we not only included a battery, we put a charging point on it (USB), integrated a light system and a security lock, it was important to make sure we have a fast but safe bike that conforms to the right legal requirement. Our bike does 15.5mph and can be programmed via the LCD to change speed ratios, gear ratios and general bike setup. Before we send out the Gron e it goes through it’s 21 point pre delivery check and setup and can be delivered to your door ready to go. The battery had to be removable and recyclable so in the future we could adapt to newer types of battery and evolve the product further and it had to be easy to charge with a battery protect charging system we use only the best battery systems and can supply further batteries on request.
Operation of our bike – Why we did not go down the app route !
Simplicity & Fun is at the heart of our product – Our bike is about enjoying that ride, keeping in that moment on a summers day journey and admiring the views along the way, to glide along that cycle path or canal at your own pace. The way we do this is give you a single clear easy to read display, you have a very simple LCD easy to read with your speed, miles travelled and power readings. This is supported with plus and minus buttons to increase your electric assist and a host of simple odometer readings you would find useful on any journey. We did not want you to attach a phone, turn on bluetooth and check for a signal, everything had to be simple to use but with a purpose to the functionality and at night? Yes you can turn on that light. Our prime objective has been always to compliment the bikes setup with an easy to use electrical assist system, we even tested it on my father who happens to be 78 and without instruction we let him loose on the roads in Sussex, in the end he did not want to give the test bike back, he loved it so much, in particularly, how he could climb a hill with ease and adjust the 5 speed electrical assist at a simple touch, it makes the bike a joy to ride and keep.

Fun– Many people in this country can remember their first bike, and many have continued using bikes as they get older perhaps they feel a bike becomes more difficult as you get older but this is not the case with our bike aimed at people over 45 who want an easy to ride bike, easy to maintain and you can take on holiday with you . It has also been a hit with my teenage son and daughter great fun and the whole family love its modern good looks definitely be prepared to share it. This is where our folding eBike has come in, we wanted our bike to be light enough to handle and ride for all ages, we wanted an eBike to take the strain, so if you are not as mobile you can still ride our bike, and we wanted it to be fun, whizzing round on a smaller but safe 20 inch bike will put a smile on your face. We also knew our bike needed to be a lighter leisure bike that could simply fold and put in your car, imagine going on holiday and riding your bike in a forest, or down to the beach, perhaps in town to grab some lunch, no parking issues, and no worries about petrol, everything is ready to go, simply switch on and your “gron”.
Mudguards keep you dry and a folding rack keeps your purchases and beach gear safely onboard easy to ride , easy to fold and easy to store, this is how we see the Gron e going forward.
